Simplification measures for the EU Organic Regulation
As the European Commission presents its agriculture-focused omnibus package, the Fair Trade Movement welcomes the Commission's broader efforts to simplify the administrative burdens on farmers, yet highlights a critical gap. The EU Organic Regulation is placing unmanageable burdens on smallholders and Fair Trade producers outside the EU.
Representing over 830 producer groups and nearly 800,000 farming families, the Fair Trade Movement warns that without targeted simplification, many producers risk decertification, threatening their livelihoods and the EU's supply of organic and Fairtrade-certified products.
This position paper outlines concrete recommendations to ensure fair, inclusive access to the EU organic market, protecting both producers and consumers.
