Throughout 2018 and 2019, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office (FTAO) has been at the forefront of advocating for policies that promote sustainable and ethical supply chains within the European Union, with efforts spanning various sectors, including agriculture, textiles, and trade, ensuring that small farmers and workers benefit from due diligence frameworks, fair pricing mechanisms, and improved labour conditions.
In recent years, the push for mandatory human rights due diligence (HRDD) has gained significant traction, and the FTAO has been instrumental in shaping these regulations to protect vulnerable communities. Additionally, their work in fair and sustainable cocoa and textile supply chains, competition law reform, and local-level Fair Trade promotion has contributed to fostering a more just global trade system. Through research, campaigns, and policy engagement, the FTAO continues to drive meaningful change in EU trade policies, ensuring they align with sustainability and social justice goals.
