The Fair Trade Movement urges a stronger and more effective regulation to prohibit products made with forced labour in the EU market

As the European Parliament advances discussions on the proposed regulation to prohibit products made with forced labour in the EU market, the Fair Trade Movement calls for key improvements to ensure its effectiveness.
To truly address forced labour, the regulation must promote responsible disengagement, preventing companies from simply cutting ties with suppliers without dialogue, collaboration, or investment in remediation—except in cases of state-imposed forced labour. Aligning with the Commission's Guidance on Due Diligence, disengagement should be a last resort, ensuring long-term improvements for workers and smallholders.
Implementing these changes is crucial for fostering fairer working conditions and driving real progress in the fight against forced labour worldwide.
